Broken lives

tmp_2695-received_10206116554765200160339306

Nathaniel left his empty glass on the table. He looked at his appartment for the last time. He went in his daughter’s room. He slowly opened the door and walked on his tiptoes until he reached her. He stayed for a few minutes still, staring at her. How peaceful and innocent she looked among her teddy bears. He layed his hand and softly stroked her rosy cheek and her golden curly hair. He was praying that one day she would understand. That one day she would forgive him. He wished he could stand in frond of her transparent. That one day he could confess the bitter secret which was poisoning his soul. He wept the tears that ran as a hot stream across his face and left the room closing the door gently behind him. He had taken his decision. He could’t live like that anymore. Every time that her little eyes stared at his own eyes, they were burning him with all these guestions asking him why. But how he could admit it to her. How could he explain to her that he was the cause she lost her mother, a year ago. How to tell her that he and his damn dependence on drink was the cause of that misfortuned accident that deprived her mother’s life. He made his last drink. He gazed at his reflectionin the glass. He was a human wreck, surrendered to his passion. He drank it at once and headed toward the front door. He went to the elevator, walked into and pressed the button to the top floor. The last minutes before the end, he deliverated. When he arrived, he came out on the terrace. A light breeze made him shiver. The peacefulness of the night highlighted by the dull moonlight and the scattered city lights came in contrast to his tempestuous soul. He was standing on the edge of the terrace, suffocating with remorses. He could not bear it any longer. He made two steps further and faced at the chaos that strettched bebeath his feet. In a further step the hateful monster of guilt, that devoured him for so long, would be lost forever in hell with him. The image of his wife, with a huge smile on her face and her baby daughter in her arms, formed in his mind. He closed his eyes and raised his foot in the air.
